In 2023, Maria and Larry Phillips, grappling with financial distress exacerbated by mounting debts, household repairs, and an inoperable van, sought assistance from veteran organizations but found none available due to not meeting the criteria. Determined to prevent others like Larry from being overlooked, they founded the American Hero Initiative. 

The American Hero Initiative's mission is:  At American Hero Initiative, our mission is to empower veterans with disabilities by removing barriers to safe and independent living through providing financial assistance for home and auto repairs. We strive to create a more accessible and inclusive community by promoting dignity and enhancing the quality of life for those we serve.
